How I Met Nigel Ruddin

It was early evening when I strolled into a lounge bar in the Raffles hotel in Singapore. I noticed this guy sitting on a bar stool, he had a long glass in front of him which appeared to contain some kind of sundowner cocktail. He was swishing the ice cubes around in his glass and staring melancholically into the cloudy liquid. I pulled out one of the other bar stools and sat down beside him, he acknowledged me with a friendly wave. It transpired he was English. He had blue eyes and fair hair and was probably of Nordic origin. He was dressed in a natty white suit and a bright red tie that shouted out at you. We fell into conversation and he told me he was a journalist looking for a story with major impact scenario. I told him I may be able to help you. He bought me a beer and our conversation extended well into the night. He was clever conversationalist and managed to wheedle things out of me that I wished I had never mentioned. I told him about Project Pacifico the underwater refuge and command center in the Philippines for the President of the United States, should there be an unprovoked nuclear attack by its enemies. He was informed about the subterfuge and betrayal I encountered whilst trying to outwit the MNLF guerrilla group and their Russian accomplices. Then I mentioned Megalodon the monstrous shark from the Pliocene period and how we were able to hunt it down and kill it. Last of all I told him how I lost my one true love. I could see tears entering his eyes and he seemed genuinely upset. He then stood up as if to leave, I took him by the arm and asked him to sit down again as I had far more to tell him. The waiter had brought over some bites and deposited them on the bar in front of us. He had been making copious notes in the little black book that he had been resting on the bar. He placed the book back on the bar and I continued. Through the global media coverage he had been perfectly aware of the original threat to Planet Earth from an alien space ship originating from the direction of the red planet. Unless fifty tons of Rhodium, the most precious metal on the planet, was deposited in a container in Portland. Sixteen of earth’s major cities would be destroyed in two week intervals. He also knew through the media of the existence of the Temple of Unity, the fastest growing religion on the planet. Its exponential growth of followers having been caused by the alien threat and fear of the unknown. I went on to inform him of a group of scientists called the Cause who wished to scare the various governments of the human race to their senses and by providing the alien threat, to open dialogue with each other. The Cause had through the clever manipulation of satellites fabricated the alien threat. I told him how the honest scientist objectives to encourage world peace had been hijacked by a South African mercenary group THORUS whose only aim was to make vast amounts of money. He was surprised when he learned that the container of Rhodium disappearance in a flash of light, had been staged by rogue scientists and THORUS. He learned of my backup team consisting of Dexter and Tristan who saved my life on numerous occasions. He looked astonished when I told him about the THORUS assassin that had murdered many of the good scientists in order to protect the vast wealth that would be theirs, when the container ship reached South Africa. I admitted to him that I eventually took down the assassin. He was incredulous when he was informed of our wingsuit flyers attack on the THORUS headquarters in Finland and how I avenged the murder of my lover Dr Faith Hunter. I was saved yet again in New York from mafia killers by my faithful duo of Dexter and Tristan. The Englishman then asked me if I had any objections if he could publish my adventures on my behalf. I told him that I had no objections but insisted as I was American and born in Boston we should publish using an American dictionary. Ah he said no u’s and plenty of z’s. I said for security reasons could I have sight of a copy of the books before they were published. He agreed to this demand and we both stood up. Then I realized something that although we had been conversing for several hours I didn’t even know his name He said its Nigel Ruddin handed me a card and shook my hand. I told him I would be in touch as I was on another mission to foil a global plot on cyber -crime.

The Illustrations
My chief concern in opening up to Nigel was how he could best tell my story without compromising my identity. Thankfully he introduced me to Peter Morey, an internationally recognized illustrator and graphic scribe who has provided all of the illustrations on this site as well as the art work for the three books.
